Yes, construction work is hard labor. However, there are many rewards, not the least of which is keeping in good physical shape. Health Grove recently released data showing the U.S. occupations which burn the most calories. Not surprising, many construction-related occupations made the top 20. Here they are, with calories burned per hour, for the average U.S. male and female:


#17: Plumbing
Female Average Caloric Burn: 227.2
Male Average Caloric Burn: 272.9


#16: Painting (House or Furniture)
Female Average Caloric Burn: 249.9


Male Average Caloric Burn: 300.2


#14: Laying Tile or Linoleum
Female Average Caloric Burn: 287.8
Male Average Caloric Burn: 345.7




#9: Construction Worker (Outside, Remodeling or New Structures)
Female Average Caloric Burn: 302.9
Male Average Caloric Burn: 363.9


#7: Roofing
Female Average Caloric Burn: 454.4
Male Average Caloric Burn: 545.8
