These Construction Projects Will Blow Your Mind: Three Innovative Techniques

To say the construction industry is experiencing an explosion of innovative and exciting techniques is an understatement. If you anyone is considering breaking away from a company to start his or her own business, now is the time! Exciting new technologies are breaking onto the construction scene and these new techniques need trained, forward-thinking entrepreneurs to implement them. Three of these exciting techniques are:

1. Thirsty Concrete -  Concrete is a fundamental component of most new and renovation construction work. It has been around since Roman times and has essentially remained unchanged until the twentieth century. Now, concrete is being re-imagined to do many things besides being just a hard surface. According to IFL Science, the construction material company Tarmac said in a recent statement:

“The high-tech concrete works by having a permeable layer on top, which allows water to drain through a matrix of large pebbles and then down into a loose base of rubble beneath.”

With the now seemingly endless incidents of flooding in the United States and elsewhere, this technology which allows up to 1000 gallons of water to drain through the concrete surface, may prove indispensable in future construction planning.

2. 3D Technology - While some consider building entire homes in the United States using 3D printing technology to be a ways off into the future, 3D printing is impacting many components of the industry. Savvy construction companies need to stay up-to-date with the 3D trends. For example, many customers want customized looks without the high-end costs. 3D printing technology may allow smaller construction companies the ability to meet their customers' needs without incurring high costs. For example, American Standard is making 3D custom printed faucets available that not only look amazing, but perform better than standard faucets.  You can read about it in their press release here.

Nationwide Construction in Texas touts 3D technologies benefits in reducing costs in both materials and labor, and in the expansion of design capabilities.

3.  Unusual/Innovative Construction Materials -  It's difficult to keep up with the latest trends in construction materials.  Thousands of new materials hit the markets each month.  Some the more unique and interesting materials are:

  • Bricks made of recycled PET plastics
  • re-use of corrugated silo material
  • various materials embedded into concrete (e.g. glass bottles, packing peanuts, etc.)

While not every new construction trend may take off, we here at the at iContractor.net can help you build an exciting career in construction. Contact us today to learn how you can begin in this exciting and ever-changing industry.
