Construction Work Regulated?

Licensing requirements exist for all commercial, residential and public works construction projects exceeding $1,000; requiring a building permit; relating to a fire safety installation; or involving natural gas, propane, or other petroleum or gaseous fule. Requirements?

To obtain a license applicants must:
a. Demonstrate having the requisite experience (0 to 4 years depending on the license classification);
b. Pass the appropriate business and trade examinations with a minimum score of 70%;
c. Pass a criminal background check;
d. Provide workers' compensation (if applicant has employees);
e. Supply a license bond (based on estimated revenue);
f. Residential contractors must also establish $200,000 for consumer protection (either through participating in the recovery fund, posting a surety bond, or a cash deposit); and
g. Pay the appropriate license fee.
