B-1 General Commercial Contractor (2022-01-20)
Construction, alteration, and repair in connection with any structure built, being built, or to be built for the support, shelter, and enclosure of persons, animals, chattels, or movable property of any kind. This scope includes the supervision of all or any part of the above and includes the management, or direct or indirect supervision of any work performed.
Also included are the scopes of work allowed by the CR2 through CR80 license classifications. Work related to electrical, plumbing, air conditioning systems, boilers, swimming pools, spas and water wells must be subcontracted to an appropriately licensed contractor. This classification does not include work authorized by the A, B, or B3 scopes.
Note: AZ applicants applying for the B-1 or B-2 General Commercial licenses have a choice of trade exams. They can elect to take either the NASCLA Accredited Examination for Commercial General Building Contractors or the AZ ROC General Commercial exam. There are differences in these exams. See the PSI CIB for each exam to compare the differences and determine which exam best fits your business needs.

ACI 530-08 Building Code Requirements For Masonry Structures

The Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (TMS 402-08/ACI 530-08/ASCE 5-08) covers the design and construction of masonry structures. It is written in such form that it may be adopted by reference in a legally adopted building code. Among the subjects covered are: definitions, contract documents, quality assurance, materials, placement of embedded items, analysis and design, strength and serviceability, flexural and axial loads, shear, details and development of reinforcement, walls, columns, pilasters, beams and lintels, seismic design requirements, glass unit masonry, and veneers. An empirical design method applicable to buildings meeting specific location and construction criteria are also included. The "Specification for Masonry Structures (TMS 602-08/ACI 530.1-08/ASCE 6-08)" is a reference specification and is required by "Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures (TMS 402-08/ACI 530-08/ASCE 5-08)" to specify materials, labor, and construction. Thus, this specification covers minimum construction requirements for masonry in structures. Included are quality, inspection, testing, and placement of materials; the placing, bonding, and anchoring of masonry; and the placement of grout and reinforcement. This specification is intended to be referenced in the project specifications. Individual project requirements may supplement the provisions of this specification.
International Building Code 2018

The scope of the International Building Code® (IBC®) includes all buildings except detached one- and two-family dwellings and townhouses up to three stories. For the most current adoptions details go to International Code Adoptions The 2018 IBC contains many important changes such as:Accessory storage spaces of any size are now permitted to be classified as part of the occupancy to which they are accessory. New code sections have been introduced addressing medical gas systems and higher education laboratories. Use of fire walls to create separate buildings is now limited to only the determination of permissible types of construction based on allowable building area and height. Where an elevator hoistway door opens into a fire-resistance-rated corridor, the opening must be protected in a manner to address smoke intrusion into the hoistway. The occupant load factor for business uses has been revised to one occupant per 150 square feet. Live loads on decks and balconies increase the deck live load to one and one-half times the live load of the area served. The minimum lateral load that fire walls are required to resist is five pounds per square foot. Wind speed maps updated, including maps for the state of Hawaii. Terminology describing wind speeds has changed again with ultimate design wind speeds now called basic design wind speeds. Site soil coefficients now correspond to the newest generation of ground motion attenuation equations (seismic values). Five-foot tall wood trusses requiring permanent bracing must have a periodic special inspection to verify that the required bracing has been installed. New alternative fastener schedule for construction of mechanically laminated decking is added giving equivalent power-driven fasteners for the 20-penny nail. Solid sawn lumber header and girder spans for the exterior bearing walls reduce span lengths to allow #2 Southern Pine design values.
